The second meeting of the Turkic World common Alphabet commission was held

Today, on May 6 of this year, the second meeting of the Turkic World common Alphabet commission took place in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

The meeting was organized by the Turkic Academy in cooperation with the Turkish Language Society under the Atatürk High Council of Culture, Language and History, and with the support of The Nasimi Institute of Linguistics at Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.

President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev, President of the Turkic Language Society Osman Mert, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Isa Hebibbeyli, Chairman of the Atatürk Center in Azerbaijan Nizami Jafarov, member of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States Hasan Hasanov, as well as members of the Commission from participating and observer countries of the Organization of Turkic States and scientists from research institutes of linguistics.

At the second meeting of the Turkic World common Alphabet commission, representatives from brotherly states deliberated on advancing the concept of a common alphabet and outlined new initiatives in this field.

During his speech at the opening of the commission, President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev emphasized that the common alphabet is a crucial part of cooperation among Turkic peoples.

“To enhance the unity of the Turkic world, we must prioritize alphabet unity,” remarked Mustafayev during his speech. “With increasing institutionalized cooperation among Turkic states, the common alphabet has become a recurring topic on our agenda in recent years.”

A commission was established under the Turkic Academy in collaboration with the Organization of Turkic States. Each side contributed two members responsible for language matters. The commission held its first meeting on May 29, 2023, in Astana, where important decisions were made.
