Conference Dedıcated to István Kongur Mandoky’s Legacy

On February 7-8, 2024, an international scientific-practical conference entitled "István Kongur Mandoky: The Golden Bridge between the East and the West of Turkology" was held at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth of the prominent Hungarian linguist, Turkologist István Kongur Mandoky.

The meeting, jointly organized by the Kazakh National University and the International Center for the Rapprochement of Cultures (UNESCO), aimed to promote the scientific works of Mandoky, as well as to encourage young scholars to new aspects of Turkology.

The event was attended online and offline by the Director of the Center for the Rapprochement of International Cultures, Olzhas Suleymenov, Member of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Darkhan Kydyraly, Chairman of the TURKSOY Writers' Union, poet Ulykbek Esdaulet, KazNU Rector Zhanseyit Tuymebaev, Vice-President of Turki Academy Askhat Kessikbayev, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Hungary Zhanibek Abdrashov, Deputy Director of the International Center for Rapprochement of Cultures Saltanat Ashimova, Acting Consul General of Hungary to Kazakhstan Imre Peter, as well as well-known scholars and Turkologists from a number of countries.

Rector of Al-Farabi KazNU Zhanseyit Tuymebaev, who opened the gathering with a congratulatory speech, emphasized the need to study Mandoky's rich heritage. Poet Oljas Suleymenov, speaking via video link, spoke about the spiritual and cultural importance of the meeting.

In his turn, Askhat Kessikbayev conveyed the congratulations of the President of the Turkic Academy, Shahin Mustafayev, and reported on the works being done in the studying of Mandoki's scientific heritage.

Other participants also spoke and shared their thoughts about István Kongur Mandoky's great contribution to the field of Turkology.

Conference materials will be prepared in the form of a scientific collection and distributed in PDF format.
